Disney Ornament
doneArduino, RFID, and relay ornament that toggles Christmas tree lights with a Disney MagicBand.
December 24, 2019
This might just be my favorite project I've ever done. This originated as a Christmas gift from my now fiancé, Lindsay.
Project Overview
This device uses an Arduino, a bunch of LEDs, RFID, and a relay to control Christmas tree lights with any Disney MagicBand.
Picture this: Christmas is fast approaching in the winter of 2019. Fueled by the panic of not completing my gift in time to give it to my then-girlfriend on Christmas Eve, a determined college student did nothing else for the 72 hours leading up to Christmas Eve. With the power of some last-minute Amazon orders, and a 3D printer that didn't stop working for a few days straight, I gave the present I was most excited to give in my whole life. It was a wild success. Her older sister was the only one that knew about it, and she helped me set it up while I made Lindsay stay in the other room. When she came into the room, she was very clearly puzzled as to why I was beaming over an ornament that lights up.
